The National Population Commission NPC, the body saddled with the responsibility of conducting head count in Nigeria has appreciated the Chairman of Ogbaru local government, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu for providing the Commission accommodation in the local government.

Representing the Director-General, National Population Commission ( NPC), Dr Ganji Bello, the Comptroller of the Commission in Ogbaru, Mr. Aghaezeh Emma O., thanked the Council Chairman for directing upon assumption of office that office space be made available for the Commission and said that they have come to inform him that they have successfully moved into their office in Ogbaru local government and will no longer operate from Onitsha South as was the Commission's earlier plan.

The Commission said that it was at the point they were concluding arrangements to set up an office in Onitsha South from where they were to administer Ogbaru local government that the Council boss intervened following his appointment as the Chairman of the local government. They thanked the Council Chairman for recognizing the importance of the Commission and assured that they will serve the interest of the people of Ogbaru to the fullest.

Responding, the Council boss, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu said that he was shocked upon assumption of office to learn that an agency as strategic as the National Population Commission does not have an office in Ogbaru local government. He lamented that the population figure allotted to the local government is such that should worry every Ogbaru person that understands what demographic enumeration is ment to achieve. "Ogbaru as populated as the local government is has a total of 223, 317 population, going by the census of 2006 as provided by the National Bureau of Statistics. We know that that figure does not reflect our true population and really, it gives us cause to worry because location of amenities, number of political wards and even federal allocation and many more are distributed on the considerations of population. When you consider the fact that the allocation of the local government is a direct consequence of our population then we begin to take every thing about the Commission very seriously," Hon Awogu said.

The Council boss assured the Commission of the readiness of the local government to make their operations hitch free to enable the local government get its population figures right.
