A six week skills acquisition training being organized by the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFÉ is currently ongoing in Awka.
The event which is taking place at the Mary Sumner Vocational and Training Institute has entered its fourth week of intensive entrepreneurial classes.
The participants, who are undergoing trainings on hairdressing and beauty therapy, bakery and confectionery, tailoring and fashion designs, soap making and computer repairs, said the programme has equipped them with the positive mindset of being self-reliant through practical learning.
Some of the beneficiaries Miss Chinenye Omeje and Mrs Christiana Ndibe who are learning hairdressing and soap making respectively, said the knowledge garnered will serve as a solid template for progress in their separate entrepreneurial ventures.
For Miss Ifunanya Emezuo, who is in the tailoring class, the programme has availed her the rudiments of measurement, cutting and design, while her counterpart from the Bakery and Confectionery Department, Mrs Obiageliaku Nnanyelugo, a widow, commended the wife of the State Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano for her drive towards eradicating poverty through the CAFE initiative.
Also speaking, the Director, Mary Sumner Vocational and Training Institute, Lady Ngozi Ezomike, said by the end of the programme, the trainees would have garnered experiences that will prepare them for greater entrepreneurial breakthroughs, adding that the training is a laudable initiative that will give a lasting benefit to the participants.
It is expected that at the end of the skills acquisition training, the successful trainees, will receive equipment and materials to help them start up their chosen enterprises.
