Cheques worth One hundred and Forty million naira have been disbursed to residents of Nkpor Flyover Community affected by the gully Erosion at Akpugoeze street as compensations as work resumes at the erosion site in less than two weeks time.
The compensation tagged "Resettlement Action Plan" is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the State Government through the Ministry of Environment, Beautification and Ecology, the Federal Government and the World Bank assisted Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP.
 The mood was that of excitement and expectations as the team from the NEWMAP arrived the venue of the disbursement at No 7 Akpaugoeze Street Benjamin Ijezie's compound at the Nkpor Flyover community as it became a story of fulfilled promise.
 Residents affected by the enormous gully erosion first signed all the documents needed ending the process which began more than six months ago.
 They were compensated based on the extent of their property affected by the erosion.
 Performing the official handover of cheques, the Project Coordinator, NEWMAP, Anambra State, Mr Micheal Ivenso, explained that the compensation was made possible through the determination of Governor Willie Obiano's administration to meet up with the its counterpart funding to the tune of one billion naira to enable for compensation of those who are affected by erosion sites across the State.
 He explained that the disbursement which started at the Nkpor Flyover community will be spread to other communities affected by erosion sites where work will soon commence.
Speaking with the ABS, the Chairman Site Committee, Akpugoeze Street, Nkpor Flyover Community, Chief Anthony Nzelu expressed happiness for the fulfillment of the promise made by the government and commended the State Government for fulfilling its part of the bidding.
This disbursement will be the first amongst other communities of Ojoto, Nnewi Ichi, and Obosi where the disbursement will be made within the week.
