Work is moving at an appreciable pace on Nteje-Umunya Road as the rainy season approaches.
This was observed yesterday when Governor Willie Obiano inspected progress of work on the project.
Governor Obiano also during the visit inspected progress of work on a bridge being constructed on the 6 kilometer Nteje-Umunya road.
It was observed during the visit, that one of the abortments that will carry the beams on the bridge has been completed while work was ongoing on the second one.
The joining roads on both sides have also been done up-to about 100 meters to the bridge.
Speaking after the exercise, Governor Obiano said the road is being constructed to create alternative route from the very bad Umunya -Awkuzu axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
He noted that since work has not commenced on the axis as the Federal Government promised, it has become imperative for the State government to speed up work to ensure that the people do not suffer during the rainy season.
The Governor observed that there has been significant improvement on the bridge project since his last visit earlier this year and said his government will continue to release funds to ensure that the project is achieved on time.
A representative of the contracting firm handling the project, Mr Tony Francis promised that they will complete the bridge within two months.
On his part, the President General of Nteje, Chief Bennett Chineze thanked Governor Obiano for what he is doing for both communities and indeed every commuter that will be plying the road.
