The State Government has commenced inspection of flood channels and sites at Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

The team led by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, visited the sites of the flooding at Iyiowa Odekpe with a view to finding a lasting solution to the menace.Other members of the team were Commissioners for Environment, Architect Mike Okonkwo, that of Lands, Mr. Nnamdi Onukwuba and Works Commissioner, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor, among other top government officials.
The team first went to confluence of Sakamori, Iyiowa and Idemili River which was identified as the main source of the flooding as flood which is supposed to flow into the river Niger through the Sakamori, flow back into Ohita and Atani communities due to the shallowness of the canal .
The team also visited the power line, Okoti, Odekpe, where the large expanse of land and road which linked the community and Oba was submerged by flood.
Speaking to the ABS, Professor Chukwulobelu said they have seen the major cause of the problem and also received the historical perspective to the problem from the local communities which they will put together with clear recommendation to the state Governor and announced that action will soon commence in other to save the affected communities in Ogbaru.
Professor Chukwulobelu noted that the way people live and discharge their refuse also contribute to the flooding urging people to desist from dumping their waste into drainages .
The Commissioner for Environment , Architect Okonkwo on his part, said that Governor Willie Obiano is always proactive in solving such problems even before their visit because of the partnership existing between the state government and World Bank on flood water Master Plan which he said a draft copy has been sent to the Governor adding that quick and remedial action will be taken by the government at the sites.
He appealed to Ndi Anambra to partner with the state Government in proper waste management for a healthy living.
In his remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman for Ogbaru Council Area Honourable Arinze Awogu, expressed delight at the speed and quick response to the ecological problems which have bedeviled the community for years saying that he is optimistic that the visit of the state government team will bring a lasting solution to the problems.
