Anambra and Enugu State governments have directed people fomenting trouble in the boundary areas of both States to desist forthwith.

The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke gave the directive on behalf of both States after a closed door meeting with stakeholders from Ibite-Olo and Awba Ofemmili Communities of Enugu and Anambra States respectively.
According to the Deputy Governor who is also the Chairman of the State Boundary Committee, having listened to both Communities, measures have been put in place to check recurrence.
On the alleged destruction of property and abduction of some people in the said area, Dr Okeke promised that with the involvement of Divisional Police Officers from both Communities, a full scale investigation will be launched, calling on people of the areas who are mainly agrarian, to exercise patience, pending the determination of the boundary demarcation by the National Boundary Committee.
The Chairman of Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Mr. Chukwudi Ezinwa who expressed satisfaction with the manner the matter is being handled, alleged that people from his local government area were attacked, expressing confidence that the matter will be adequately addressed, calling on people to avoid taking laws into their hands.
For the Chairman, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mr. Lawrence Onwuzuka, the many accusations by the other side are baseless, calling for a proper resolution by both parties.
It would be recalled that the two State Governments recently set up a fourteen man committee to foster peace in the disputed areas.
Present at the meeting were Traditional Rulers from both Communities the police as well as Boundary Committee Secretaries of both States.
