The Commissioner for Education Professor Kate Omenugha says the continuous exposure of teachers of Anambra state to various training programs is aimed at enhancing their capacities for optimum performance.

Addressing teachers at the Girls Secondary School, Awka, during a training session on Portfolio Assessment Using Assessment to Enhance Effective and Efficient Learning , Professor Omenugha pointed out the need for teachers to be abreast with current global trends in the profession, towards ensuring that there is effective teaching and learning.
Professor Omenugha stated that the training was designed to expose teachers to critical and analytical teaching approaches as well as various skills that would ensure that children understand what they were taught.
She pointed out that one teacher-one laptop policy introduced by Governor Willie Obiano’s administration has greatly enhanced the capacity of teachers in the use of Information Communication Technology and stated that future recruitment of teachers in the state would be based on computer literacy.
The Education Commissioner appreciated Professor Chukwuemeka Onukogu and the Reading Association of Nigeria (RAN), for collaborating with the Ministry of Education in enhancing the capacity of teachers through the Literacy Enhancement Achievement Project (LEAP), for improving the learning standard of children.
Participants who were master trainers drawn from the pilot Local Government Areas expressed their appreciation to the state Government and Reading Association of Nigeria, for the opportunity given them to enhance their skills for ultimate good of school children.
