The call for the immortalisation of late former vice president of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme has heightened.
The latest call is from Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Ecology and Beautification, Dr. Romanus Ejikeme who says the late elder statesman deserves to be immortalised for his contributions in nation building.
The Senate, Ohaneze Ndigbo and some other groups had also called on the federal government to name a federal institution against his name.
Ekwueme’s Oko kinsmen had also called for his immortalisation, seeking that the federal government upgrades the Federal Polytechnic, Oko and the Federal College of Education Technical, Umunze, both in Anambra State to the status of Universities in his honour.
Both Federal institutions were attracted to the state by Dr. Ekwueme.
Commissioner Ejikeme who spoke to journalists in Awka on the life and times of the nation’s former Vice-President, said Nigerians had a lot to learn from him ranging from his love for Education, hard work and nation building.
The commissioner, who hails from Uga in Anambra South Senatorial zone, where Dr Ekwueme also hailed, said he was proud to be associated with elder statesman, having interacted with him closely and also learnt some of life’s lesson from him.
He noted that Dr. Ekwueme was one of the architects of the development of Abuja capital territory and deserved to be immortalised.
Ekwueme a political juggernaut, architect of note, lawyer and philanthropist had died in November last year, and has been slated for burial on 2nd February 2017.By David-Chyddy Eleke in Awka.
