The Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanization , Processing and Export says it is set to create Yam market and cassava processing yards in Orumba Etiti, Onono , and Nzam.
Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Mr. Afam Mbanefo, who made this known when he played host to the Transition Committee Chairman of Anambra West, Mr. Tony Collins Nwabunwanne in his office in Awka, said the Ministry is collaborating with International Fund for Agric Development, IFAD.
Commissioner Mbanefo said he had secured approval for the expansion of the Otupu Market structures and borehole to service the VIP toilet facility at the market based on appeal by the Transition Committee Chairman.
He reiterated the Governor Willie Obaino-led state government’s commitment to giving Anambra West a facelift.
The Anambra Coordinator for IFAD, Mr. Emmanuel Agwuncha, said that open market stalls and lockup shops had already been built in Otupu Market and Umueze Anam, respectively, noting that three local councils , including Anambra West, East and Orumba are beneficiaries of the programme.
Mr. Aguncha praised efforts of the state government toward uplifting the living standards of Ndi Anambra.
Responding, Mr. Nwabunwanne thanked the Commissioner and his IFAD counterpart for considering the councils in the area for the project, pleading that more of such interventions be channelled to the local councils.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture, Mr. Mike Ogbuekwe, who said that agriculture was one of the key bedrocks of Governor Obiano administration, promised to visit the Oroma- Etiti, Onono and Nzam markets in subsequent visit.
