 Kick-off of 2017 edition of Willie Obiano Unity Cup

Governor Willie Obiano has kicked off the 2017 Willie Obiano unity Cup in the state.
Rojenny International Stadium, Oba was the venue for the kickoff. The year's tournament which is the 3rd edition, will see both male and female teams from the 181 communities in the State participating as well as teams from military and the para-military, the Muslim community and non-indigenes.
The winner of the tournament will go home with a one million naira prize money while the 2nd and 3rd place teams will get 500, 000 naira and 300, 000 naira respectively.
Speaking after the kickoff, Governor Obiano explained that the teams were selected as a way of fostering unity among the various segments of the state including indigenes and non-indigenes.
He revealed that the tournament is expected to produce football talents that will constitute the Anambra Football Club which his government will float under a Public Private Partnership arrangement, early next year. The governor further said his government has factored into its budget for 2018, seed money for the 1,720 youths it had trained across various entrepreneurship areas while disbursement will commence when the appropriation bill is passed.
He urged the youths to shun any act that can mar their future as well as to support his second term bid, assuring them that he has a comprehensive agenda for their wellbeing.
While welcoming the governor and other guests to the kickoff, the Commissioner for Youths Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Dr UjuNworgu acknowledged that part of the reason Governor Obiano's security initiative is working, is because he is also creating activities that will keep the youths off the streets.
She noted that due to the governor's support towards the growth of sports in the state, athletes from the state are now winning laurels in both national and international sporting competitions.
Also speaking, the Member representing Idemili South Council Area, Bar. ChukaEzenwune posited that the tournament will not only help harness the latent talents in the state but also create jobs and reduce crime, commending Governor Obiano for remaining true to his promise to cater for the welfare of youths.

The kickoff ceremony saw the opening match of the tournament between AwkaEtiti and Ojoto communities both in Idemili South Council areas.
