Anambra State Ministry of Basic Education in collaboration with a private firm has organized a two week Skill Aquisition Booth Camp for teenagers with special needs.
The program which will end on the Twenty eight of August, holding at Youth Development Center Mgbakwu,is to train those with special needs in various fields and skills of human endeavors.
Performing the opening ceremony attended by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Basic Education, Mr Nwabueze Nwankwo, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters , Mr.Chucks Ezewuzie,Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Education ,Mrs Ify Enekwechi and teachers from various schools for children with special needs, Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, charged the participants to take advantage of the enabling environment created by Governor Obiano and the platform to use their long vacation to learn skills that will help them in life.
Prof Omenugha advised them to have positive mindset and believe that nothing is impossible in learning new skills to become self reliant.
A consultant with the private firm, Mr Emmanuel Obieze in his remarks said that participants will be trained on photography, tailoring,shoe making, music, dancing,hair dressing, catering and panting and thanked the state government who through the Ministry of Basic Education made possible the Skills Aquisition Booth Camp program.
The SSA to the Governor on Special Education Mrs Enekwechi in an interview said the participants who are of special needs were enthusiastic and are fully ready to acquire new skills.
A teacher from one of the schools for children with special needs Mrs.... outlined some of the challenges they encounter in teaching children but however assured that at end of the program much would have been impacted on the students.
Some of the participants including the deaf, the crippled and the blind trilled the audience with skills they have learnt.
The Commissioner, Professor Omenugha and other invited guests later inspected the stand.upsot To end.
