The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in Ogbaru local government on Thursday,  converged at the Council Secretariat, Atani, to forge a united front and to speak with  one voice as the party prepares for its primaries.

Driven by the need to sustain the unity of the party before, during and after the  primaries so as to enable the party go into the general elections undivided as such is the only guarantee for impressive outing in 2019 general elections, the convener of the meeting and the Chairman of the local government, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu, called for an end to internal wranglings among aspirants of the party in the local government and among their various supporters.

The meeting which was attended by the Ogbaru local government chairman of the party,  Hon. Nnamdi Ifejika, all the 16 Wards chairmen, secretaries, youth leaders, women leaders, and stakeholders including supporters of aspirants vying for various elective offices in the local government. The Council Chairman emphasised the need to learnt from the experience of 2015 election where the party lost both the Federal House and the Senate to the opposition not because it wasn't popular but because of infighting such as being witnessed today. "We are beginning to see through some of the aspirants the likelihood of creating irreconcilable situations after the primaries as a result of posturings in the process leading to the primaries and it is incumbent on us to appeal to all aspirants to maintain decorum because whoever that emerges will need the support of the rest aspirants to do well in the general election.

"We must remember that clinching the party's ticket is the beginning of a long walk which the emerged candidate mustn't pray to walk it alone. When you send thugs to attack your fellow aspirant, when you encourage deep seated gulf through what your lieutenants say and write in social media platforms against your fellow aspirant and when you send thugs to tear fellow aspirant's billboards or posters, how do you expect that aspirant(s) to support you in the main election if you eventually emerge in the primaries. It's important our aspirants tone down and approach their quest for party ticket with sportsmanship mentality. Desperation that leads to 'do or die' attitude should be substituted with the spirit of sportsmanship that leads to oneness and ultimately, victory in the general elections." The meeting also had in attendance Special Assistants and Senior Special Assistants to the governor from the local government.

The party rose from the meeting with a resolution to discourage all conducts capable of creating disunity before, during and after the primaries so as to ensure that candidates of the party for various elective offices are supported maximally by all members of the party.
