Media Practitioners have been urged to engage in development journalism and be objective in their reportage of government plans and programs as a way of sustaining a peaceful State.

Governor Willie Obiano stated this during the second edition of the Media Summit of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, held at Godwin Ezeemo Press Centre, Awka.
Performing the opening ceremony, Governor Obiano who spoke through the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, described the media as the watchdog of the society, cautioning against what he called shallow reportage, and urged journalists to ensure feeding the public with accurate information at all times.
Governor Obiano, while commending the cordial relationship between the government and Journalists in Anambra, pointed out that hopefully, once funds improve, they should expect more interventions, stressing that his administration has been contributing its quota in the profession such as making the Anambra Broadcasting Service the best broadcast outfit in Nigeria, among others.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C-Don Adinuba, said that the theme of the Summit is apt, considering the indispensable role played by the media in enthroning good governance and emphasized that Anambra has been on track, setting the pace in practice of democracy.
Earlier, the National President of NUJ, Mr Waheed Odusele, represented by the National Vice President of the Union in charge of South East region, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, commended the Council for sustaining the Summit which he noted, started from the South East Zonal level, pointing out that it affords the opportunity to not just discuss issues pertaining to the profession, but issues of National discourse.
He called on other State Councils to emulate the Anambra State Council and organize such events and commended the Governor for not derailing from his vision of better and more prosperous Anambra, even though it is his second term in office.
The Chairman of the State Council of NUJ, Comrade Emma Ifesinachi, stressed that the media and the government of the day are partners in progress, expressing optimism of a determination to make positive contributions that will make the State better.
An award was presented to the Governor for being Media friendly in a well attended event which featured lecture presentations, among other side attractions.
