The state chapter of the Nigerian Red Cross Society has conferred on Governor Willie Obiano the “Grand Commander of Humanity”.

The award which was conferred on him at the grand finale celebration of the World Red Cross day held at Professor Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka, also recorded award on others that contributed greatly to the service to humanity and provision of assistance to the most vulnerable in the state.
The event with theme ‘Memorable Similes around the World” attracted government officials, legal luminaries, traditional rulers among others.
Declaring the event open, Governor Obiano represented by the Executive Secretary for Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Emmanuel Ezeh, stressed the need for continued selfless service to humanity to ensure smiles on everybody’s face.
In his address, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Honourable Justice Paul Obidigwe, said the primary aim of the Red Cross is to provide relief and peace to the injured people and prevent death rate or disaster of any kind.
Honourable Obidigwe who described Red Cross as first respondent to emergency situations urged members to enhance its capacity on disaster preparedness, mitigation and rapid response to the most vulnerable in terms of human needs.
In a vote of thanks, the State Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Professor Peter Katchy, commended the state Red Cross Society for putting memorable smiles to the faces of Ndi Anambra, urging them not to relent on their selfless service to humanity.
