The State House of Assembly has passed a resolution urging the Federal Government to fish out the killers of two catholic Priests and seventeen parishioners at Saint Ignatius Parish, Ayar-Mbalom, Benue state and punish them accordingly.
The motion was sponsored by the member representing Njikoka One Constituency, Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma and others during yesterday’s plenary.
Moving the motion, Dr. Ifedioramma, visibly saddened by the incident, described it as despicable and satanic, urging the federal government to arrest those behind the act and make them face the consequences of their wickedness.
On his part, the member representing Onitsha North-one Constituency, Mr. Chugboo Enwezor, who regretted that Nigeria seems to be under siege as no action has been taken to end senseless killings of innocent Nigerians by suspected herdsmen, called on the security Chiefs and President Muhammadu Buhari to live up to their responsibilities .
In his reaction, The member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Dr. Pete Ibida, who lamented that all the resolutions passed by the House urging the federal Government to arrest senseless killings of Nigerians by suspected herdsmen has not yielded the desired result, appealed to it to punish the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent to others.
The member representing Ayamelum Constituency, Mr. Uchenna Okafor condemned the act in its entirety even as he commended Governor Willie Obiano for facilitating the deployment of security personnel to check points in his constituency.
While extending her condolence to the government and people of Benue state over the incident, the Speaker, Barrister Rita Maduagwu called on the appropriate authorities to rise to the occasion by addressing wanton destruction of lives in the country.
Supporting the motion for adjournment, the member representing Ogbaru One Constituency, Sir Benson Nwawulu, urged Governor Willie Obiano to direct the contracting firm handling the construction of Ogbaru/ G.M.O/ Mgbuka/Amazu road to go back to site as other contractors have gone back to their sites.
Similarly, the member representing Aguata Two constituency, Chief Ikem Uzoezie, urged the Commissioner for Road Construction, Maintenance and Furniture to address the flood menace obstructing vehicular movement at the border between Igboukwu and Isuofia.
The lawmaker revealed that each time it rained, the area became impassable.
