The
Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency, NDLEA, Mrs Eucharia Azodo, has called on the
federal government to be more proactive in the fight against drug abuse in the
country.
Mrs Azodo, who represents Aguata Federal Constituency
in the National Assembly, made the call when she visited the Anambra State
Command of the NDLEA in Awka.
The Federal Lawmaker who stressed that most crimes
committed in the society are drug related, regretted that budgetary allocations
to the agency for successive years have remained meager compared to the amount
of work they do.
She however commended the
efforts of the Anambra State government in equipping the Agency, calling on
other States, especially those in the North that are more ravaged by drug
abuse, to emulate Governor Willie Obiano and replicate same in their various
States.
Responding, the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Sule Momodu, said that the collaboration between the Agency and the Anambra State government has brought lots of breakthrough in the fight against drug abuse, expressing optimism that it will continue.
