ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT INITIATES MEASURES TO UPGRADE OJOTO
HEALTH CENTRE
The journey towards
upgrading Ojoto Health Centre by the State Government, today commenced with the
visit of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Josephat Akabuike to the
facility.

visit and tells us more.
The Commissioner was
on a preliminary study visit to the Healthcentre on the request of the
Community, to assess the facilities already put in place through self-help
efforts by Community towards its anticipated upgrade to a general hospital.
In the company of
stakeholders in the community including the traditional ruler, Igwe Dennis
Okafor, the President General, Chief Edwin Umeghalu, the Senior Special
Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr Kingsley Ezekwelu and numerous others,
Dr Akabuike inspected the facilities.
Addressing the
community, the Health Commissioner, Dr Akabuike who noted that experts from the
Ministry will immediately visit the Center to understudy the equipment on
ground, gave the community three options which include upgrading the center to
either a general hospital, an annex to the State University Teaching Hospital
or a maternal and Child Healthcare Specialist Center.
He commended Ndi Ojoto
for their self-help ideology in supporting the establishment of a high-class
health institution in the community, affirming that what they are requesting is
in line with the present administration's objective to achieve efficiency in
primary healthcare delivery across the state.
While thanking the
Ojoto community for their overwhelming support to Governor Obiano during the
just concluded governorship election in the state, Dr Akabuike assured them
that they have made the right decision and will not regret it.
The Traditional Ruler
of Ojoto, Igwe Okafor explained that what the community is requesting is what
will benefit the future generations and expressed optimism that the Obiano
administration having identified health as a major enabler in what it is doing,
will key into the project to ensure that it is fully realized.
Earlier, the President
General of the Town, Chief Umeghalu acknowledged that the visit goes to
re-enforce the premium the present administration places on health and its
readiness to partner communities towards improving the health of their
people.
In a vote of thanks,
the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths Mobilization, Sir Tony
Uche-Ezekwelu noted that the community has been at the forefront of supporting
the Obiano administration and APGA, adding that the upgrade of the Healthcentre
will help give Ojoto a sense of fulfilment that the government they supported
has their interest at heart.
